Astrology has had somewhat of a reemergence over the last few decades. However, most people’s perception of the science is somewhat shallow and prediction-based. From the short daily reports in newspapers, to people online believing they are experts when they’re only misleading others for the most part. Is it any wonder why Astrologers are hardly given any respect in social circles?
The sad truth is, most defame the science by using it disrespectfully and incorrectly.
The main reason why people get interested in divination tools such as Runes, Tarot Cards or Astrology is that their ego wants to know how their life is going to unfold due to their innate fear of the unknown. To fear the unknown is natural, it is a defence mechanism built into the human condition to keep us safe. But as the old saying goes, life begins where your comfort zone ends. In Astrological terms, this means we must transcend the prickled nest of the South Node to awaken our North Node─which represents all things unknown to us.
The Yogic path, however, encourages practitioners to live in a meditative state throughout their day via various techniques that enhance self-awareness. The word Yoga means union, the union of your consciousness with the ocean of spirit. Thus, YogAstrology is to unite with the source by dissolving the challenges inherent in your horoscope.
To be in a meditative state means to be present and to live in the present means to embrace life, and consequently, the unknown in its totality. But where does Astrology come into the picture when most people nowadays use the tool to try and predict the future?
Simply put, we at YogAstrology do not!
We don’t see Astrology as a tool for divination but divine inspiration. We utilise the science for which it was intended, to help one become conscious of the limitations within themselves. Paramahansa Yogananda put it beautifully when he said in the best-selling account of his life, Autobiography of a Yogi.
“The starry inscription at one’s birth, I came to understand, is not that man is a puppet of his past. Its message is rather a prod to pride; the very heavens seek to arouse man’s determination to be free from every limitation. God created each man as a soul, dowered with individuality, hence essential to the universal structure, whether in the temporary role of pillar or parasite. His freedom is final and immediate, if he so wills; it depends not on outer but inner victories.”
To use Astrology to attempt to predict the future is to keep yourself out of the present moment; the only place life truly happens. You, me and everyone else are already connected to the source, if we weren’t we wouldn’t exist as consciousness is the fabric of all things manifested and unmanifested. Making your connection to your higher self, conscious, however, is to live in alignment or to be yoked with the source. This is the point of the yogic teachings and also the true purpose of the Natal Chart.
The truth is already inside of us, but so are a bunch of barriers that obscure the realisation of whom and what we truly are. We do not need to obtain any new state, we just need to cleanse ourselves of the limiting beliefs and perceptions that create the toxic emotions and behaviours that aren’t aligned with our true self. Once we do this, the light of our being can shine unobstructed─our innate perfection comes to the fore!
“The deeper the self-realization of a man, the more he influences the whole universe by his subtle spiritual vibrations, and the less he himself is affected by the phenomenal flux.”
─Sri Yukteswar Giri
The challenges and limitations we take upon ourselves during a physical incarnation are all self-imposed on a higher level; they are the result of what we’ve done in the past, linearly speaking. What has been done, can be undone through meditative practice as you can see in the quotation above. The more conscious one becomes, the less they are influenced by the myriad movements of the celestial objects, rather, they regain their free will and the power to define the planets and circumstances that befall them in any way they so desire!
Once you break free from the program of the old self, you obtain the ability to create any life you believe you are worthy and deserving of having. You’ll probably find that the life you truly desire, in your heart of hearts, is perfectly aligned with the themes and archetypes in your North Node position. This is what you are here to accomplish; this is the will of God if there is one because the divine is your own higher self.
